Air and Road Infrastructure

yukon road infrastructure

Yukon has sturdy all-season highway infrastructure and a robust airline network with daily flights to major urban centres in Southern Canada and numerous flights to rural communities throughout Yukon. During the summer, Yukon is also connected internationally to Germany. Complementing Yukon’s pervasive government-supported infrastructure system is a number of private-charter airlines and construction companies that ensure mining, forestry and archaeology projects have constant transport access.

Yukon construction companies have extensive experience working in cold climates. Yukon’s infrastructure has supported its industry-based businesses for more than 100 years, constantly adapting to meet demand.

Government of Yukon’s Long-term Vision

The Government of Yukon has invested heavily in improving Yukon infrastructure to support its growing economy. For example, in a 2011 survey, over 60 per cent of mining CEOs interviewed found the government somewhat or very supportive and 95 per cent of applicable respondents found the government at least a little supportive of mining operations’ infrastructure needs. The Government of Yukon supports a long-term vision to connect Yukon further to shipping ports in Alaska via an expansion of the Alaska-Canada Rail Link. Finally, the government has supported existing local transport businesses such as Air North, Yukon's Airline, through a number of tax credit systems and expos to ensure continued success and service to the North.
